Enviro

Navigation on a virtual terrain

Mouse Navigation - the Standard Terrain Flyer

The drawback to the mouse is that its difficult to move in more than one degree of freedom at a time.  For example, you can turn right, or move down, but not both at the same time.  There are many ways to map the mouse position and mouse buttons to movement.  This is the way Enviro does it:

The further you are from the center of the window, the faster you move.
Hold down the left mouse button: mouse2 button1
Hold down the right mouse button: mouse3 button2
Hold down both mouse buttons: mouse4 bothbuttons2

If you have a scroll (middle) button on your mouse, you can use it to zoom forward/backward; hold down the Shift key for faster movement.

If you find yourself moving too fast, keep your mouse cursor close to the center of the window, or decrease your Flight Speed with the +/- toolbar buttons, or the 'F'/'S' shortcut keys ("faster / slower")

Mouse Navigation - the Velocity Flyer

This behaves the same as the standard terrain flyer, but your motion has a damped velocity which makes motion smoother.  You can set the amount of damping in the Terrain Properties: Camera: Navigation, or at runtime in Camera-View Settings: Velocity Damping.

Mouse Navigation - the Grab/Pivot Flyer

mouse2 Click and drag the left mouse button on a specific point on the ground to pivot around it.  (Be aware that if you click far from the center of your view, it is possible to undesirably roll the camera.)
mouse3 Click and drag the right mouse button to grab the ground and move it underneath you.
mouse4 Hold down both mouse buttons to zoom in or out.

Flight Speed does not have an effect on this style of navigation.

Keyboard Navigation

keys1

keys2

The SHIFT key accelerates all other keys.

Same as with mouse navigation, the 'F'/'S' shortcut keys ("faster / slower") can be used to change speed.

Joystick Navigation

(In Enviro's Global Options dialog: Enable Joystick navigation)

Move the joystick:

button1
Hold Button 2 and move the joystick: button2
Hold Button 3 and move the joystick: bothbuttons2

Same as with mouse navigation, the 'F'/'S' shortcut keys ("faster / slower") can be used to change speed.

SpaceNavigator

(In Enviro's Global Options dialog: Enable SpaceNavigator)

Navigating should feel very natural and the same as in other applications:

spacenav
Fly forward/backward, left/right Yaw (turn) left/right, move up/down Pitch (tilt) up/down)

Same as with mouse navigation, the 'F'/'S' shortcut keys ("faster / slower") can be used to change speed.
