This dialog lets you indicate how an elevation grid should be rendered, how the elevation values are converted to colors.
Colors
- Color Map File
- You can choose any color map table (.cmt) file from any GeoTypical folder on your data path. You can also use the Edit Colors... to modify any of the color tables, or make new tables. Don't forget to press Save (or Save As if making a new table) in the ColorMap dialog so your changes are kept.
Shading
- None
- There is no shading, just a direct mapping of elevation values to colors.
- Quick (East-West)
- Fast, false shading which is similar to a bright light from due east.
- Dot-product with surface
- A little slower. Produces shading based on the direction of the light and the orientation of the surface. You can control:
- Angle (0 degrees horizontal -> 90 degrees vertical)
- Direction (0 is north, 90 is east, 180 is south, 270 is west)
- Ambient light (0 is no ambient, 1 is full ambient)
- Gamma (shape of the lighting curve - 0.8 is a typically useful value)
- Cast Shadows
- Optionally, the elevation can shadow itself, based on the light direction. This is a potentially slow operation, as the render time is proportional the area in full shadow, so for very low angles with a lot of shadow, it can take some time.
