    The Hawai‘i Vegetation Mapping Project died and the funding expired.
    Currently, there is a consortium, including BRD, USFWS and the park service, that has put a proposal into NASA for fresh data and new attempt at classification
    Jim has excellent data. I sent a formal letter 99.04.01, requesting the data. Never got a response. Later (2001) it appears that it is on the State GIS site?

PLANNING DEPARTMENT

- 99.04.01 talked to zoning clerk: Esther - said some data is computerized, not sure how much, they don't depend on the computerized TMK info because it's not kept up-to-date, says talk to 961-8366 Research and Development (R&D said talk to Planning)
- 99.06.18 talked to Esther again. She gave me to Roy in the planning department. Roy said there are 2 maps with zoning information - the large maps in the General Plan, and more detailed current Zoning Maps (30 for the whole island). The General Plan map is slated to be computerized this year, by Gilbert, using ArcView. The Zoning Maps are not slated. They are not available directly from the Planning Department either. There are bluprint service companies, such as "Hilo Drafting Services", which can get ahold of the Zoning Maps and send copies.
